Ann McCracken

Ann McCracken has been “Doing Art” since she was a small child. It was a comfortable place to go…where you could lose track of time.

After graduating in Fine Arts, she apprenticed with a sign painter…learning the craft of hand lettering. It proved to be a good match, and resulted in her starting her own business, A Good Sign Company in 1984...the last generation to get into the business with a can of paint and a brush.

Eventually, she found herself being drawn back to doing her own work…being both self-employed and a single mom at the time, the medium of colored pencil offered the flexibility of grabbing a few minutes here or there…a perfect fit.

Now semi-retired, she has been able to spend more of her time with her original love of drawing…

“At this point, I recognize that it’s not about me, it’s something coming through me. Just have to get out of your own way.”
