Josephine Close

Josephine Close is a visual artist whose primary focus is works on paper. A self taught mixed-media painter with a true love of the natural world, poetry, magic, myths and fairy tales. Born in the woods of New Hampshire but now living in a haunted cottage in Los Angeles.

A series of interior paintings, the majority of which were created during the pandemic. Without the ability to travel, I started painting little room paintings to transport myself to distant places, Creating magical little worlds that I could inhabit without leaving the house. I wanted to make every one of them look like a sparkling jewel, a treasure. They were my therapy, my lifeline, the act of painting them helped me to forget the state of the world around me. To me, they were always meant to be displayed in a grouping taking on the look of an enchanted dollhouse.
