Julia and Robin share a passion for sculpture and molten glass. Ideas, techniques and an array of materials are melded together to manifest their combined surreal vision into anthropomorphic explorations. They both hold BFA’s and MFA’s and love teaching. Robin is the manager of the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio and Julia teaches glass for Virginia Wesleyan University in Coastal Virginia.
In isolation from the outside world, while the spreading virus was churning up chaos and fear, we found solace in family and nature at home with our children. It was an opportunity to reflect on the interconnectedness of all things and the ways in which energy moves throughout all life and affects us, often in subtle, undetectable ways. Our ever-changing world operates systematically despite a sense of disarray. There is order in the chaos. There is wisdom buried in our DNA to instinctually guide us when intellect fails.
In our work, animals represent a connection to this wisdom and to the natural world. There is much to be learned from the animal spirit, especially in today’s fast paced digital life where it is easy to forget that we, ourselves, are inseparable from nature. They serve as guides to remind us that with a little faith and compassion, we can find our place within natural order.
