Kacy Yu grew up in Wenzhou, China and has been passionate about painting since childhood. After working for seven years as an art lecturer at a university in China, she immigrated to the U.S. in 2019 to further her artistic pursuit. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Painting at Laguna College of Art and Design. She has taken to surrealism while studying in the U.S. The scenes in her surrealist paintings are derived from literature, movies, past experiences, and places that she has visited, dreamt of, and imagined.
Cumulonimbus is a projection on the concept of déjà vu. Although they look like a cotton ball in the sky, Cumulonimbus clouds can be insidious and create hail, thunder, and lightning. The ominous outdoor landscape contrasts with the warm and inviting atmosphere inside. In a comparatively dim space, with warm light and danger looming, the viewer may experience the calm before the storm.
