Lucia Znamirowski, artist and educator holds a BFA in painting and Drawing from California College of the Arts (2010) and an MFA in Pictorial Art from San José State University (2022). Coming from a commercial art background, she embraces drawing, printmaking, and installation art with an open mind. Acknowledged for her work, she secured an Artistic Development Grant from the Santa Cruz Art Council (2024), received a Dedalus MFA Fellowship nomination (2023), the Helen Dooley Scholarship (2022) and the Auvil Printmaking Scholarship (2021).
Embarking on a transformative journey post-MFA graduation in 2022, Znamirowski draws inspiration from the generative qualities of the word "Metanoia.” "Metanoia" has many interpretations, but for her it means a profound spiritual transformation, viewing it as a catalyst for metamorphosis. Her current body of work, comprised of drawings made with glue, chalk, and ash, serve as a testament to the artist's ability to create something from nothingness, resonating with the spirit of radical joy and bright wisdom. In dialogue, her drawings offer a remedy—a defiant creative energy transcending boundaries—an intimate experience, a dream, a story of love and remembrance. 580 California Street (2022), prompts contemplation of being tethered to this world and reaching for something beyond, inviting reflection on art as a powerful agent for improvement and connection.
