Peggy Magovern

An award-winning artist, instructor, and judge, Peggy Magovern’s medium of choice is colored pencil, and with some projects, include chalk pastel, oil pastel, wax pastel, watercolor, and/or paper collage for a truly unique look. With over 15 years of experience, she teaches on-going group and private classes, and workshops throughout California that focus on the versatile medium of colored pencil. Prior to teaching, Peggy worked in the competitive field of commercial illustration. Colored pencils were used in part with all her images, and appeared in national and international publications that include; Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, The Wall Street Journal, Oxford University Press, and the Smithsonian. But it was while working as the Senior Illustrator for the iconic Banana Republic catalog that she honed her skills in clothing artwork rendered exclusively in colored pencils. Later on, she used her skills in colored pencil to explore a uniquely different form and expression in the fine art world. Her work became represented in galleries that include; Carmel, San Francisco, the Bay Area, and Mendocino. Peggy is grateful for the combination of these two passionate areas of her life; teaching and producing works of art. From directing a colored pencil workshop for the International Conference of the Colored Pencil Society of America, to receiving accolades in the form of “Best of Show”, Merit”, Award for Distinction”, and “First Place”, it is a gratifying combination indeed.
