Born in Los Alamos, New Mexico in December 1954, I also lived in California and Missouri, where I graduated from University of Missouri-Rolla with a degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1976. Although I cannot remember when I first recognized there was a creative side to my personality, it should not have been a surprise to me…after all, my two brothers, sister, and I are all left-handed!

As the saying goes, "I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could!” in 1976 to begin my 43-year career which ended with retirement at the end of 2019. Midway through that career, in the late 1990s, my burgeoning artistic interest became more focused once I discovered colored pencil as a fine art medium. Pursuing this passion even during a very busy consulting career resulted in obtaining my Signature status with the Colored Pencil Society of America in July 2011.

Being afforded unique travel opportunities to several continents during my career, travel photography naturally became a secondary passion and has provided me a large database of reference material for my artwork. Although retired from the oil business, I am not retired from life and my desire now is to share both my colored pencil art and digital photography images, and the stories and places that surround them, with all who venture to my website https://www.srgilbert-fineart-photography.com
