An alumna from Laguna College of Art + Design, Wendy Gracia received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Drawing and Painting in 2018. Prior to that, Wendy received her Associate's in Art while studying Studio Art at Southwestern College in San Diego. She has since exhibited in San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles including La Luz de Jesus ‘Everything but the Kitchen Sink’ Group Show in 2020 and a solo show at Luna Bloom in Barrio Logan in 2021 and again in 2022.
As a contemporary painter, Wendy uses both color theory and recognizable motifs in order to create a sense of familiarity within her artwork. By painting subject matter that is well-known, her artwork manages to provide solace that comes from familiarity. Of her works, she has been told that they bring the viewer a feeling of home, of happiness, and comfort in their vibrancy and with the saturated hues with which she works.
She uses her palette to express her innermost emotions in relation to the world (by creating a more radiant blue sky, for example, or emphasizing the colors reflected in the shadows of objects). Her paintings have been described as “happy” and “warm,” which is what she is exploring by choosing to paint pieces that can feel familiar to the viewer. Historically, there are heavy connotations to being a representational painter, and she considers herself a contemporary impressionist in that she is seeking to express the impression of what she sees in hopes that her viewer can also be stirred into a response.
