33 Years of Art in California

The Brea Gallery is proud to present its current exhibit

33rd Annual Made in California
Juried Exhibition

April 21 - June 15, 2018

Even after 33 years, this annual exhibition is anything but traditional. Each spring the Brea Gallery invites contemporary artists with diverse skills, varying approaches, and unique ideas to help us paint a picture of what it means to be creative in California. This year’s show is made up of nearly ninety bold, provocative, inspiring, and just plain beautiful works of art. With everything from intricate pencil drawings, to powerful abstract portraits, to whimsical sculptures, and stunning photography, this exhibit has a bit of something for everyone.

A huge turnout for the Opening Night Reception, with many of the artists in attendance. The Gallery was full of friends and families as well as residents from the community that look forward to experiencing this exhibit every year.

Also at Opening Reception, there was an award ceremony held by the Gallery Director, Heather Bowling. Each winner in attendance was asked to come up to receive their award letter and for a group photograph. We published the list on our social media for those artists who were unable to join us - Congratulations!

There is one last award that will be announced at the end of the exhibit, June 15th. Popular Choice ballots are available in the Gallery and anyone cast a vote for their favorite. The artist with the most votes will get a cash prize - be sure to submit yours!

Our next big program with Made in California is Fresh{AIR}, our Artist-in-Residence program.

We are excited to host two Made in California artists, Timothy Bakthy and Jennifer Anderson who will be in the Gallery space, creating work and answering questions. This is free with general admission and visitors are encouraged to take photos and engage as these artists create something completely new!

Timothy Bakthy will be working on this piece during his residency at the Gallery.

Jennifer Anderson works on another painting and is planning on creating something completely new for her residency in Fresh{AIR}.

May 19 + 20 from noon to 5pm you'll be able to wander around the exhibit and ask questions to the artists as they work. The atmosphere is fun and casual and suitable for all ages.

Congratulations on all the artists and their beautiful work in this show. Be sure to stop in to see the 33rd Annual Made in California Juried Exhibition, currently on display now through June 15th, 2018.
