Congratulations!
After almost 5 months of an open call, our Made in California juried exhibition has been selected!
Congratulations to our 2021 winners!
From Gallery Director Heather Bowling,
We know that this past year has been immeasurably difficult for all of us, and that artists and creatives in particular have been faced with yet another set of brand-new struggles during this time. Not only with the closing of galleries and museums nation-wide causing us to be disconnected from our artistic communities for far too long, but also professionally and financially.
Which is why this year we were absolutely stunned by the number of artists who took the chance to submit their work for consideration for our annual MICA exhibit. We are of course acutely aware that each year artists who choose to enter and pay the submission fee are taking a risk, gambling if you will, with their hard-earned money for an opportunity to be a part of this regional show. And it naturally always weighs on us, and the jurors, the enormity of the trust that is placed into our hands to put together the strongest collection of work through the fairest process possible. Which is why this last year we have implemented several free entry contests and are looking into more opportunities in the future to support make this annual call for art more accessible than ever before.
This year, over 2,300 pieces of art spanning all mediums were submitted for consideration, and our panel of jurors spent two full weeks reviewing the artwork, reading artist notes and statements, and calling artists who experienced issues with their entries. All while keeping in mind factors such as presentation, quality, originality, and overall cohesiveness of the exhibition. And in the end, the work with the highest scores was accepted to be a part of this yearβs exhibition.
We canβt wait to share this upcoming show with everyone.
Thank you to everyone who submitted!
